Half of the Department of Education has been fired. Secretary McMahon has stated that the funding from the Department can be distributed by other departments. Maybe that will happen, and “only” the work of the department will be stopped.

In the current budget year (2024-2045), Vinalhaven Schools receive funds for Title 1 of $56,139 to fund the Literacy Position.

Special Education, from the IDEA grant, receives a $47,638 allocation for a Behavior Specialist

Breakfasts and lunches are served at the school.

MaineCare currently ensures that all children have health insurance.

TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) provides cash assistance to families while they work towards becoming self-sufficient.  This is funded by a federal block grant and state contribution.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides a monthly benefit to help low-income households purchase nutritious food. This is fully funded by the Federal Government, USDA. The state manages the distribution of SNAP benefits.

All of these programs provide a safety net for our children, to keep them warm, fed, and healthy. All are at risk.
